Shea Nut and Natural Oils Conservation Limited is an indigenous private-sector enterprise adding value to Nilotica shea nuts and other natural oils — while protecting threatened tree species and creating fair livelihoods.
About us
Established and incorporated in 2020, SNNOC Ltd processes and sells cold-pressed premium raw Nilotica shea butter to rural households, urban buyers, and international markets. We exist to close the gap between ecosystem loss and community prosperity in West Nile.
We align our work with the UN Sustainable Development Goals: no poverty (SDG 1), decent work (SDG 8), responsible production (SDG 12), climate action (SDG 13), and life on land (SDG 15).
Enhance the conservation value of shea and other oil species by empowering communities through economic opportunity and a sustainable value chain.
Create premium products from Nilotica shea and other oil plants in a fair, customer-focused environment that supports indigenous collector groups and protects target species.
Our values
Protect the environment and conserve natural resources for future generations.
Uplift indigenous communities through fair trade and practical capacity building.
Premium quality in products and services, held to the highest standards.
Honesty and transparency with collectors, clients, and partners.
Continuously improve processes and products while advancing conservation.
Protect and sustainably use Nilotica shea trees and other oil species.
Build durable partnerships with communities, organizations, and government to achieve shared goals.
Our story
SNNOC Ltd was born from a deep passion for nature, community, and sustainability. Inspired by the cultural heritage and untapped potential of the Nilotica shea tree, we set out to confront two linked crises: the degradation of invaluable species, and the economic hardship of communities who live in harmony with them.
In West Nile, generations have relied on the shea tree. Rising demand for farmland and wood fuel, together with limited awareness of the tree’s ecological and economic value, now puts this resource at risk. The company was formed to bridge conservation and sustainable development.
We train communities in sustainable harvesting, support reforestation, and add value to shea butter and other natural oils. From humble beginnings we have grown into a conservation enterprise partnering locally and internationally, introducing green solutions, and working toward a legacy where natural resources are valued and protected.

Current initiatives
Nurseries in community centres regenerate shea trees and create local jobs. More than 45,000 seedlings now underpin reforestation and biodiversity work.
A community sports initiative since 2022 that raises awareness, builds unity, and brings collector groups into conservation. Delivered with One Voice Africa.
With West Nile Innovation Hub under the REFOOTURE project, we restore soil health, improve yields, and spread farming practices that sit alongside conservation.
In partnership with Enabel: better extraction, stronger value addition, higher quality, and wider market access for shea and companion oils.
Supported by the Mastercard Foundation: training, inclusion, and income opportunities for youth and women through sustainable green enterprises.
Value addition from unproductive shea wood — mortars, pestles, plates, cups, plaques, and medals — so trees are worth more standing or crafted than turned to charcoal.
